Post graduate Planning and Transition Year

Post graduate planning is a crucial component of a student's life at BDEA. Making sure that each student has both a goal and a plan for reaching that goal after graduation is a process that begins as soon as you start classes.

The transition year, generously funded through a teen futures grant from the Hyams Foundation, allows students to stay connected to BDEA and receive support services even after they graduate. Students who enroll in capstone workshops  during their final trimester at BDEA will build upon previously practiced skills in goal setting, time management, conflict resolution, job preparedness, and financial literacy. After graduation, students meet one-on-one with the transition year coordinator who works individually with each student for an additional nine months to ensure their continued success and goal attainment after high school. An incentive-based program students can earn up to $290 for their participation.

Our Post-graduate Planning office offers a variety of services and opportunities to BDEA students and graduates including:

1. One-on-one college and career counseling

2. College and Career exploration classes

3. Financial aid and scholarship planning

4. Workshops and speakers

5. Visits to colleges and career training programs

6. SAT and ACT test registration and preparation

7. Dual enrollment (college classes for high school students)

8. Early College in partnership with Benjamin Frnaklin Institute of Technology. (This allows a student to complete--for free-- a full year towards an associate's degree at BFIT while completing their last year at BDEA)

The PGP office understands that cost is a huge factor when thinking about college. For this reason, BDEA’s PGP office has partnered with UASPIRE, an organization that helps students find affordable ways to attend college. This year alone BDEA graduates were awarded $576,893.00 in grants and scholarships.
