About us
The best way to learn about Boston Day and Evening Academy is to VISIT. We are located on a hill just outside of Dudley Square, Roxbury, in a stately old building that was once the Phylis Wheatlley School. BDEA moved here in 2004, and has been a vital part of the community, inviting neighbors and partners to join us for graduations, portfolio presentations, Symposium, Garden Days, and a variety of other celebrations.
The school has an organic community garden, which includes a solar-powered, hydroponic greenhouse, an outdoor classroom, a stage, a composting system, 3 totems, and a sculpture instalaltaion called "Walking with Memories"--all created by BDEA students. Everyone at the school works hard to maintain a safe, warm, nurturing, and supportive environment.
BDEA is known for its unique approach to teaching and assessment and for its student-centered approach to all instruction and support programs. We offer Enrichment courses with embedded 21st Century Skills, job and career readiness courses, internship prep, and a summer academy. Our post-graduate planning office begins to work with students during orientation and our transition year coordinator follows students for 9 months after graduation. Our student support team connects students and families with any needed services outside the school, and works to keep students emotionally healthy and engaged with the school.
